Fruit of the Spirit - Tuesdays with Terry

May 26, 2015

Dear Christ Followers,

God has been after me for some time to "extend" the message from each Sunday.  I have resisted.  But now it seems the time.  So here is what it is going to look like each week (or most every week).

1. It will come out in the form of Tuesdays with Terry

2. It will highlight the Scripture passages used in the message

3. It will highlight a couple of key thoughts

4. It will give a practical application from the message

5. I will use a building model  -  foundation (Scripture); framing (key thoughts); finish (practical application)

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Message from 5/24/2015

Foundation

    Galatians 5:22-26; John 15:1-5; Proverbs 3:5,6

Framing

The Fruits of the Spirit are for YOU.  They are for your fulfillment in life!  God obviously receives the praise when we live a Godly life, but the Fruits are designed so that you might live life more abundantly!

They are the Fruits of the Spirit, they are not the fruits of Terry, or John or Sally.  We can generate some of these characteristics through hard work and discipline in our lives, but not to the fullness that the Spirit can in us.

The first step to really having these characteristics in our lives is to "connect" with our God.  Apart from Him we can to nothing (that is going to enhance the Kingdom and fulfill our lives permanently)  -  John 15:5.

Finish

We connect in a variety of ways with our God.  The obvious ways are prayer and Scripture, but there are ways beyond.  "Leaning" into Him is a way that sometimes gets overlooked.  The writer of Proverbs makes this declaration in Chapter 3.  Leaning requires a certain degree of trust.  God is trustworthy.  We must learn to trust Him with our whole heart.  We trust Him with our eternal soul, but most of us have trouble trusting Him with today and tomorrow.

Try This: What is the thing in your life that keeps you awake at night or occupies your waking hours?  If you could have fixed it, you would have by now.  Right!  Tell God that you trust Him with it.  Ask Him for the strength to trust.  Give Him permission to be your representative in this situation.  He may ask you to join in with the "fix" but for now show Him how much trust Him by simply surrendering the person, circumstance or situation.  Welcome to your growing Spiritual Fruit of Peace.

See you Sunday, if not before.  May the Lord bless and keep you and your family.
