Over the next several weeks we will have a space in the Worship Folder filled with notes on how we can and should view and respond to a shifting culture that is tending to drift away from the orthodox, historical and traditional Judeo-Christian teachings...
From the July 12, 2015 Worship Folder...
First, we must understand what the primary meaning of Evangelical is: It is a branch of the Christian church that views the Bible as the final authority on God and the nature of mankind. Because God is the author of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16,17), He then has the final work, which is the Ultimate Truth (John 14:6).
Creekside is absolutely evangelical in both belief and action, as we hold the truth proclaimed in Scripture as instructions for Godly living to the church in general and Creekside specifically.
When culture clashes with this Ultimate Truth, then we must believe and adhere to the truth revealed in the Bible. We are people who were created with a free will, so the choice is a matter of obedience to the Word as a response to the trust we have placed in Jesus Christ.
The decision regarding same-sex marriage that the Supreme Court rendered on June 26, 2015 is in direct opposition (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6) to the very words of the Creator of marriage. Therefore as evangelicals, we would submit to the authority of the Supreme Being over that of the Supreme Court.
"An unjust law is human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law..." St Thomas Aquinas. Please read Romans 1:18-32.
Next week: How to give a grace-filled answer to someone who disagrees with us.
