OBEDIENCE, IDENTITY, TESTIMONY
1. Baptism gives evidence to obedience to Christ
The step of baptism was not a suggestion, but actually a commandment from Christ.
Matthew 28:19, 20: Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have command you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Christ wants every believer to be baptized.
2. Baptism establishes identity with Christ
Being baptized into His name means we belong to God. We are re-enacting the work of Christ in water baptism, as we symbolize His burial and resurrection
Colossians 2:12: Having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Jesus, Himself, was baptized by John the Baptist, thus endorsing this act.
3. Baptism expresses testimony for Christ.
We are not to be ashamed to confess Jesus before men.
Matthew 10:32: Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment!
